Today was Harris' fourth Birthday! It was quite eventful. We had his "circle of life" ceremony at St. Andrew's where they celebrated all four years of his life and related it to the earth revolving around the sun. It was a sweet little time and the children each took turns saying something nice about Harris. Many of them said, "Happy Birthday, Harris!", or "I love you, Harris.", and a few of them said that they wanted Harris to come to their house or to their birthday. Harris was very quiet and didn't seem to know what to think of it all. It was the first ceremony of the school year. After a few songs about birthdays, life, and friendship we went outside and shared a cookie cake with all of his friends.
It was really touching to think about how much he has grown in the past year. In some ways it seems that September 16, 2005 was a lifetime ago, especially when I think about how different my life was then. But in other ways, it seems like it's all just racing by so fast that I am scared I am missing it. It's nice to have times like these to slow down and take it all in...

Pizza
Harris just served me a slice of pretend pizza, of which I took a pretend bite. He then asked me to make him some pizza, so I cooked the same slice and gave it to him on a plate. He looked at it and said, "Oh no, Mama, you put that one in your mouth, I don't want that one!" He is his mother's child today!

Wine Bottle
William picked up Harris from school today, and his teacher, Miss Jeanette, pulled him aside to report this: She said that Harris was working on the bottles and caps activity and was very proud of himself. He had called Miss Jeanette over to look at how well he had put the caps back on the bottles. They were talking about them and Miss Jeanette pointed out one that was in the shape of a leaf and asked if he liked that one. He said, "Yes, I do, and this one, Miss Jeanette, it looks like my Daddy's wine bottle." I skirted another one! Way to go Harris!
First Busted-up Face
Poor James had his first incident with concrete yesterday. He somehow went from a perfectly stable squat to having his face slide across the concrete, scraping his nose and forehead. I saw it happen and still don't know how he did it! His feet flew up in the air behind him and THUD when his head on the ground. I felt so bad, and so did Harris. Harris stopped playing with the water hose and came right over to gently pat James on the back and give him kisses on his head. He later came inside and said that it just got really loud out there and he needed to come INSIDE to get away from it (even though James and I were already inside at that point).

Hugging the Road
Harris and I were just reading his new 'Things That Go' book. After I read this sentence, "The race car hugs the ground as it roars around the racetrack.", he says, "Does it hug it sweetly?"
Playin' around!
Here are some new pics of the boys. They were having fun playing on the learning drum together, then James caught Harris and gave him some "sugar". James is getting closer to walking and Harris is taking every opportunity to help him along. He helps lead him and says so excitedly, "Look Mama, he's walking, he's walking!" He has been a great big brother!
